ImSoMaleek LP Review

ImSoMaleek a Wyclef Jean protegé from Brooklyn, will be releasing his debut album, Insomniak, later next month. No stranger to the world of music, ImSoMaleek was lead singer in a band with his two older brothers 3on3 and also appeared in the Broadway Musical Lion King as well as venturing into other music endeavours.

With the guiding hand of Wyclef Jean and drawing from influences such as Usher, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake, ImSoMaleek brings out a solid debut album, blending R&B, soul, while adding touches of pop, and drawing on his roots in classical training.

Tipped to become a familiar name in the R&B world, as well as the world of popular music, this debut album is overall a fine achievement. The album has a smooth flowing contemporary sound with stand out tracks including, Sometimes ft. Oswin Benjamin, and Raindrops, a ballad with poignant lyrics and which best displays his vocal talents. Overall, a compelling debut from someone who we will probably see a lot more of in the future.

Pimlican’s ‘Runaw’y’

Pimlican is an intriguing artist, working with a number of other talented musicians in order to create a seemingly genre-less brand of music as it crosses so many styles.

Fusing elements form hip-hop, rap, R&B and pop, Pimlican’s music consequently appeals to a wide range of listeners in the urban umbrella.

The name ‘Pimlican’ stems from countless nights spent in the Pimlico area of London waiting for appointments with music industry hotshots. However, after forming his own record label, Belgrave Road Records, Pimlican is now looking to build on their last release ‘B’ck 4 More/ P’lya’, with the pop-hooked anthem ‘Runaw’y’.

Employing a superb vocal lead alongside innovative instrumentation and rap, it’s the kind of track you can’t just listen to once.

CallMeTheKidd Welcomes you to his ‘Jungle’ with New Single out in December

Hailing from North London, CallMeTheKidd artist, (AKA Peter Elegbede) is certainly causing quite a stir on the UK urban scene. His latest song ‘Jungle’, from his debut EP ‘2ND2N: The Movie’. 7 out of 10 tracks he produced himself, and all of the songs on the EP were all written by him also. He has already opened up for other well-known artists such as Ghetts and Chipmunk, as well as MOBO award winner Stormzy & nominee Lil Slmz.

The video for hot track ‘Jungle’ see’s the dapper, CallMethekidd literally take it to the jungle with his beautiful date. Charming his way through his cool performance, CallMethekidd looks perfectly at home in front of the camera. After seeing the rising star in action, we doubt many girls will be turning down a date with him!

The official video is out Monday 10th November, for now feast your eyes on a sneak peek behind the scenes of the video production:

After almost following a career in professional basketball in America, Peter found his true calling in the form of writing and producing grime music. CallMeTheKidd says ‘’I started off with grime music but I now write & produce all sorts of music – Rap, Pop, RnB etc’’, of which he has been an avid fan of since the young age of 12. The track ‘Jungle’ has insanely tight production, and the beat and lyrics are especially catchy. The track depicts what goes through a man’s head when first meeting a woman – the aspect of love vs. lust is incorporated as he battles a conflict of desires in his head.

After unfortunately losing a close family member to a 7-year battle with cancer very recently, Peter has vowed to donate the proceeds from this single towards Macmillan Cancer Support. Peter recently self-pressed over 500 copies of his EP on CD, and gave them away, with the purpose of just getting his music out there and heard. With his heart more in the music as opposed to the money, CallMeTheKidd’s attitude is a brilliant example to aspiring musicians all over the UK.

‘Jungle’ from ‘2ND2N: The Movie’ is due for release on 8th December.

From Beenie Man to Giggs; the story of Rising R&B star Alyssa English

Alyssa English will release her debut single on May 16th ahead of her forthcoming EP called ‘Girlfriend’, to be released May 26th.

Alyssa English is starting to be very well known in UK R&B circles. She has collaborated with dancehall giants Beenie Man and Maxi Priest and also recorded a track with the Award winning UK rapper Giggs, which will be on her forthcoming EP. Given the calibre of these artists and the fact that Alyssa is only a modest 18 years old, she’s definitely one to watch.

Alyssa was born in New York but later moved to Canada where she grew up in a world of music. Not only was she personally passionate but it ran in her family, as they were also musically oriented. Her uncle is in fact soul singer and songwriter Sam Dees, who wrote tracks for legends like Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston and George Benson.

Whilst Alyssa can play piano and flute (just to mention a couple), it was learning to sing that her talents were spotted by her then vocal coach. One thing lead to another and her coach put her in touch with Kofi  management where William Kofi went on to become her manager, who could see the potential in Alyssa’s voice. From then on she knew that a career in music was the only way she was going to go. At the age of 15 she took the bold decision to move to the UK to follow her musical ambitions, and it seems that this was definitely the right choice! This was actually what influenced the ‘Girlfriend’ track.

Alyssa’s title EP track ‘Girlfriend’ takes a lot musically from the likes of Jason Derulo, JoJo and other R&B stars. In making the track, Alyssa came together with top industry producer Livingstone Brown (Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Shakira), who also helped to co-write the EP, Mike Stephens (Musical Director for Take That) and Luke Smith (an infamous session musician who’s worked with the likes of George Michael to Chaka Khan) for the final product.

Having completed a tour of UK schools so far, she is destined for bigger things with this new release so make sure to keep an eye out! Watch the video for the lead track ‘Girlfriend’ here:

R ‘N’ B/Soul singer Monica Azull releases debut single ‘I Like It’, May 12th

Half Ugandan half Congolese, Monica came to England aged eight. She is now living in London, signed to QH Music and is a star in the making.

On her first performance at performing arts school, an overwhelming audience response confirmed what she had known since writing her first song – music and performing was her true passion and a career she felt she had to pursue.

Her debut release ‘I Like It’ is about a man, ambitions and fantasies…

“At the time, there was this guy that was pursuing me, I also happened to think he was cute but didn’t want to tell him how I felt towards him. I feared that a relationship would interfere with my ambitions… I’m sure every woman has their fantasies!” -Monica Azull

Musically speaking the track has a very soulful R’N’B vibe to it. There is a strong beat that really drives the song which is topped off by Azull’s impeccable vocal skill.

Check out ‘I Like It’ here:

For a debut release Monica has already had an overwhelming positive response to her track, this is one artist to listen out for and is sure to be making big waves in the music industry.
