M3staken is back again with ‘Rain’

cover-art.jpg

Returning with his third album in the space of less than a year, experimental hip-hop artist M3staken (M3) has dropped the final piece of his ‘trilogy’, Rain.

Listen to Rain here: https://m3ssi.bandcamp.com/releases

Having dabbled with a combination of classical piano and electronic instrumentation on his first record, Apex, M3 has honed his brand of jarring, dark and complex music that borrows many of its beats from the world of hip-hop.

Despite this, it’s a difficult task describing exactly what M3 is doing and this is what places him in a different league to other artists. He’s a natural born boundary pusher and we clearly haven’t seen the end of his exhaustive ideas quite yet. Who knows what he might be combining with his hip-hop roots next?

M3 commented that Rain is ‘loosely connected to my two previous works and it is primarily a collection of my personal favourite songs’.

Pimlican’s ‘Runaw’y’

Pimlican is an intriguing artist, working with a number of other talented musicians in order to create a seemingly genre-less brand of music as it crosses so many styles.

Fusing elements form hip-hop, rap, R&B and pop, Pimlican’s music consequently appeals to a wide range of listeners in the urban umbrella.

The name ‘Pimlican’ stems from countless nights spent in the Pimlico area of London waiting for appointments with music industry hotshots. However, after forming his own record label, Belgrave Road Records, Pimlican is now looking to build on their last release ‘B’ck 4 More/ P’lya’, with the pop-hooked anthem ‘Runaw’y’.

Employing a superb vocal lead alongside innovative instrumentation and rap, it’s the kind of track you can’t just listen to once.

Christian hip-hop duo Go2 to release new single ‘Nothin On You’

Go2-Hi-Res1Go2 (Lerish and Vizun, aka. Rick and Dale) combine hip-hop with Christian praise and worship to create a powerful musical outfit. Go2 caught the attention of the rights campaigner and political leader Jesse Jackson, and shortly thereafter they were requested to come and perform in Chicago at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition Headquarters run by Jackson and in support of civil rights and social justice.  They have been building a large support base since then: they were nominated for Best Holy Hip Hop Artist at 2009 Gospel Choice Awards, have topped the Christian charts and have even shared a stage with Ludacris.

The duo met in church where Rick was a worship leader and Dale was a minister in training and sound engineer. They formed a friendship out of the mutual ambition to make hip-hop primarily but also because their faith was so important to them and music felt like a great way of expressing their feelings towards God and the ones they loved. Go2 believe that Jesus has blessed them with an ability to make unique music, which can help to spread their message.

About “Nothin On You”

I wrote this song with a very simple message in mind, nothing can nor should take the place of God in your life. I didn’t write this song to be against having fun or any of that, I wrote it because I myself had let things like money, houses, career and other materialistic things become more important to me than God. The first verse of this song is about a guy who came to a cross road in his life, in a night club, and realized that the things that he looked for to bring him joy no longer worked. He needed something more. I feel this song is very relatable because I think we’ve all had that eye opening point in our lives where we said, “there’s got to be more to life than this. “  This song has a very danceable beat; it reminds me of the famous line-dance style culture. Some songs that were very popular in this same vein are The Macarena, The Cha-Cha slide, The Wobble, The Cupid Shuffle and
The Electric Slide.  What sets this song apart from the pack is the universal, relatable message embedded in this urban contemporary hit.

Australian Hip-Hop Artist makes UK Debut!

Could Giovanni ‘Gio’ Agosta, a regular 19 year old from a remote farm on the other side of the world, be the next big thing in Hip-Hop? After listening to his songs, the answer is most definitely yes. With his vibrant yet versatile style, Gio showcases his extremely talented ability to be able to play many instruments as well as freestyle.

Growing up in West Melbourne, Australia, personal losses and life experiences have inspired the raw songs on his new album, as well as being exposed to several diverse genres in music. He has taken his influences, such as Macklemore and Bob Dylan, and incorporated them with his experiences to create this edgy yet intimate sound. His new single ‘Dear Bup’ started out as a poem to his ex-girlfriend, who broke up with him because his dedication to music meant that he didn’t have much time for her. Knowing she would never read it, he created the single.

When writing ‘Real’, Gio said his perception of music was enlightened, ‘I didn’t just want to be a rapper anymore, I wanted to hit the right notes. The album is called ‘Real’ because it seems like people are judged as not being real or their music isn’t ‘real’. I feel like the end verse of my first single Real sums it up “See these days we don’t feel real unless someone else agrees. Because people push you to be a certain way, to act like something, to talk about what they think is the sh*t… I don’t need to rap about drugs, but if that’s expressing myself and it’s important to me, then I should. I can say what I feel, because what I feel is real.”’. Gio has played alongside artists such as M-Phazes (who produced a couple of tracks on Eminem’s latest LP the MMLP2), Butterfingers & Mind Over Matter, and has worked with singer Jimmy Cupples and also has received ongoing support from ARIA Award winning rapper 360 since he came to watch Gio’s headlining show in Melbourne.

Gio is not only incredibly talented within the studio, on the stage is where he truly shines. His producer, Mark Belcastro, comments that “When Gio’s on stage, he steps it up to a whole new level…He doesn’t stand up there and just play his songs, but rather wants people in the crowd to join in and be in the show”.

Looking to get involved in urban clothing labels is yet another innovative idea that Gio has had in order to promote his music, alongside releasing his album for free. In many ways, Gio is like any regular kid, going to parties and socialising with friends, the exceptions being his talent, passion and ambition for music and that one day, he will be inspiring many young musicians just like himself.

Real’ will be released in the UK in early March 2014, and his single ‘Dear Bup’ will be released on January 15th, which you can listen to on SoundCloud here: www.soundcloud.com/gioay/dear-bup
