A Welcome Short Sharp Scratch from Jak Chantler

If you can expect quality new music from anyone today, Jak Chantler is certainly someone you can trust. Cutting his teeth in the alt-grunge band ‘Kingskin’ and tipped as Kerrang’s “best new unsigned band”, Chantler is changing his musical direction and the change is more than welcome.

His new single ‘Shell Suit’, crafted by him and producer George Shilling is a joyous dance through a world of sunlight and soul that calls on the old school funk vibes of Chic and Chaka Khan. The groove and feel of the song is undeniable and the lyrics talk of love and life in a nuanced and poetic manner that will tug at the heartstrings of any human being that knows what it is to dive head first into love.

As the ultimate combination of songwriter/producer, Jak is perceptively aware of the current trends in this contemporary age of music where there is so much choice. The new project seemingly has no limits as he aims to meet the demands of the savvy modern day listener.

With the guiding hand of Wyclef Jean and drawing from influences such as Usher, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake, ImSoMaleek brings out a solid debut album, blending R&B, soul, while adding touches of pop, and drawing on his roots in classical training.

Tipped to become a familiar name in the R&B world, as well as the world of popular music, this debut album is overall a fine achievement. The album has a smooth flowing contemporary sound with stand out tracks including, Sometimes ft. Oswin Benjamin, and Raindrops, a ballad with poignant lyrics and which best displays his vocal talents. Overall, a compelling debut from someone who we will probably see a lot more of in the future.

‘Don’t Fade Away’- the new single from Wayne William

Solid indie-pop track taken from ‘The Parade’ album

coverWith a soulful vocal and a clean, commercial indie-pop sound, Wayne William is a solo artist from Malta with buckets of talent. His entirely self-produced album – impressively recorded and captured in his own ‘WM’ Studio – was released earlier this year to strong reviews, and the latest single ‘Don’t Fade Away’ is set to enhance that reputation further.

His smooth style is hard to ignore, ‘Don’t Fade Away’ is an indie-pop treat that’s not afraid to tug on your heartstrings. You can check out the video here:

The single is taken from ‘The Parade’, an album described by Skope Magazine as ‘a powerhouse’ and one that introduced a much wider audience to the songwriter. With more material on the way, this could very well be only the beginning for Wayne William.

It’s been a busy two years for Wayne. In addition to putting together album ‘The Parade’, the last couple of years has seen him get married, launch his own studio, work with other artists to record their own material as well as finding the time organise charity gigs to raise awareness and money for childrens’ cancer groups. He will also compete in this year’s Eurovision, representing Malta as part of the band Firelight.

Raised in a musical family, it comes as little surprise that music was the path that Wayne William would take. And with ‘The Parade’ out now alongside the excellent new single, this is one radio-friendly singer-songwriter who is sure to turn heads.
